Obituary of Allan Hamelton Lambert

Allan Lambert was born on Friday, November 23, 1940 in New Westminster, B.C. to Joe and Alma Lambert. Al was the eldest son and a brother to his sister, Cora. His sister Josephine followed and then younger brother Roger. They grew up in the small community of Haney, BC. Al worked as a pin boy at the local bowling alley. As an unruly adolescent, he managed to get his two front teeth shot out of his mouth by some hooligans with a pellet or BB gun. Al also took up boxing and won the Golden Gloves for the light weight Fraser Valley Division as a youth. Al was a bit of a wild guy in his younger driving years and in his early twenties he managed to wrap his car around the support to a Lower Mainland highway overpass. He spent nearly a year in a body cast recovering. Al took up truck driving. He learned on short hauls in the Lower Mainland, graduating to long hauls and semis soon after. After a previous marriage, Al met Maureen Powell around 1965. After a brief courtship, Al picked Maureen, me and my sister Christine up at my Uncle Bud's in Swift Current, Saskatchewan and we came to Dawson Creek. Dad drove truck for the next 14 years or so for Remple, Frank Dolan, Belanger, White Pass and others sometimes based out of Fort Nelson. Jodi (1967) and Dusty (1969) had come along by then. Dad took us camping, fishing and even took me hunting for a few days up near Pink Mountain. Dad opened up the Gearjammer Electronics store in the late 1970's. Dad took the plunge and quit driving truck. There were a few lean years as the business got on its feet. That business (and its cousins like Pipeline Motors managed by Gary Powell) was quite successful and employed a large number of folks over the years. Dad began to exercise his favourite recreational pass-time and began to golf in earnest as time permitted. He and mom would often play 9 holes before work. Dad and Herta married at their home on 114th Ave in 2005. All of us kids came up for the wedding. A very happy day. It was very sad a year later when Herta suddenly passed on. On behalf of the family, I would like thank Doctor Hargreaves and the awesome nursing staff at the DC and District Hospital, the staff at Reynars for their support. And lastly, I would like to thank my brother Dusty and sister-in-law Genie for their extra special care of Dad over the final weeks.
