Obituary of Alan Weaver

Alan Weaver 1953 - 2018 Alan left us on November 7, 2018, far too soon, at the age of 65. Alan loved life; he was a huge movie fan, especially Sci-Fi and history films. His family didn't get a TV until he was 10 years old and in his youth he was too busy to watch it, so since his illness, he had been catching up on everything from Bonanza to Game of Thrones. He came to Dawson Creek to spend a week with his mother and brother almost 30 years ago and he never left. He made a lot of friends here and found a home with his life mate. He was caregiver to both his mother and later his in-laws to the best of his ability. He loved dogs more than almost anything and had had to say goodbye to his best friend of 18 years (a Dalmatian named Elvira) only a couple of years ago. He had since learned to love cats and had 2 who kept him company during the day. In his youth, he spent days hunting partridge and fishing in New Brunswick. He married young and welcomed his first son Derek. The marriage didn't last. Later he met the mother of Todd, his second son. He hadn't seen either of his boys in years but spoke of them often. He had many careers from Winery foreman to shoe store manager. In his 30s, he decided to take carpentry training. However, once he entered the work force, he started breaking bones and tearing ligaments. It was the beginning of a long list of illnesses and many courses of treatment. In spite of everything, Alan always loved to chat. Everyone who knew him remembers jokes and conversations enjoyed. Alan fought many demons in his life and didn't always win - but he had matured into a caring, thoughtful soul. He was predeceased by his father, mother, and his three older brothers. He is survived by his spouse, his two sons, his 2 stepchildren, one brother and one sister, as well as his cousin Steven, who came to live with Alan's family as a child and grew to be like a brother to him. No funeral service will be held. Expressions of sympathy may be made by donation to the SPCA South Peace Branch, 637 - 114 Avenue, Dawson Creek, British Columbia V1G 3A1.
