Obituary of Vernice Evangeline MacTavish

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of mom, grandma, and great-grandma, Vernice MacTavish. A longtime resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Vernice passed away at Rotary Manor, British Columbia, on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the age of 93 years.

 

Vernice was born near Broderick, Saskatchewan, on Sunday, April 13, 1930. In 1945, she moved to Dawson Creek, British Columbia with her parents Homer and Sara Medcalf and brother Homer Jr. Vernice married Murray MacTavish on June 7, 1953, and together they had four children, Gordie MacTavish, LuVern (Dale) Bumstead, Brent MacTavish, and Rhonda Simmons.

 

Over the years, Vernice enjoyed bowling, tai chi, crocheting, spending time with her family and friends, and Sunday drives with her husband. One of Vernice’s favourite childhood memories was going to Saskatoon with her school to see the King and Queen.

 

Vernice will be remembered by many for her blue eyes, her smile, her laugh, and always having coffee on.

 

Vernice was predeceased by her husband Murray MacTavish on February 15, 2005, and her daughter Rhonda Simmons on April 18, 1989.

 

Vernice leaves to mourn her three children; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother Homer Jr. (Ann) Medcalf; sisters-in-law Lois Srala, Maxine MacTavish; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Vernice’s family would like to thank all the staff at Rotary Manor for taking such good care of her.

 

With respect to Vernice’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Vernice will be laid to rest with her husband Murray and daughter Rhonda in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery.
