Obituary of Kendall Ralph Rerick

Family and friends of Kendall Ralph Rerick, 73, formerly of Penticton, BC (until October 28, 2023), regret to announce that Ken passed away in Dawson Creek on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

He is survived by his life’s friend, Alana June Appel; two daughters April Violet Chruikshanks-Trasy (Darren Chruikshanks) and Laura Shannon Dyck (Alan Dyck); six grandchildren, Liam Trasy, Ewan Trasy, Maya Trasy, Noah Trasy, Logan Dyck and Nina Dyck, all living in Dawson Creek, BC. He is also survived by sister Beverley Joan Calvert (Nanaimo, BC) and brother Robert John Rerick (Michelle) (Vernon, BC), as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Kathryn Rerick; brother Garry Albert Rerick and sister Susan Ethel Mills.

Living in the Fraser Valley, Ken acquired a nickname “Herm” (ref. Munsters), putting that 6”5” physique to use as an outstanding la crosse player.  In Penticton, Ken worked as a community worker at P.D.S.C.L. until early retirement due to Parkinson’s Disease.  Ken could usually be seen wearing a bright Hawaiian shirt, proudly doting on and driving his project 1950 Dodge Fargo panel truck, “born in his same birth year”.  Ken enjoyed long distance walking, bicycling, travelling, camping, and collecting vinyl records and albums, a hobby he shared with his brother Garry and nephew Michael Calvert.  A club member, Ken participated in Legion and ANAVETS marches.  Ken fought hard but succumbed to heart and Parkinson’s diseases.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Cremation took place at Ken’s request. A Celebration of Life in honour of Ken will be held this summer in Penticton at the beloved cairn provided to Ken by his friend Roy Raeburn in memory of Garry Rerick.

For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Ken to the Parkinson’s Society BC, 600 890 Pender St, Vancouver BC V6C 9Z9.
