Obituary of Marjorie Evans

Marge was born Marjorie Shuman, January 21st, 1929 to Fred and Blanche Shuman. The family had a stopping place at Braden's Crossing east of Rolla, for freighters hauling grain to Sprit River, and it was here that Marge was born. Finally after three brothers, a baby sister for Myrtle.

Marge attended school at Coleman Creek school until the family moved to Whalley BC in 1941. She continued her schooling at Grovesner Road school and Queen Elizabeth High. During the summer Marge worked in a fish cannery on River Road along the Fraser River.

At the age of sixteen, Marge began working at a plywood plant as a patcher. She stayed at this job until she was married to William Evans in 1949. They started their family in 1950 with the birth of JoAnn. In 1951 Jim was born in New Westminster, and their daughter Sandy was born in Dawson Creek in 1953. Marge was living in Dawson Creek with the family while her husband was overseas in the Korean war. When he returned, they were transferred to Calgary for a time and then on to Germany. While there, Marge had an opportunity to travel Europe and she particularly loved Holland. She enjoyed travel and was sorry that in later years because of failing health, she was unable to do so.

Marge moved home to Dawson Creek 28 years ago. Brother-in-law Steve went down to the coast and moved her back to be closer to family. She was working for K-Mart at the time so she was able to transfer here. She continued to work for K-mart until her retirement at age 65.

Marge enjoyed retirement, lunching at the Co-op, traveling to Fort St John from time to time with Myrtle and generally just being with family. Her passion was bingo and watching wrestling on TV. In that order. The family knew better than to phone her during a good wrestling match. She was also a member of the Ladies of the Royal Purple and loved getting together at meetings and social events.

Marge was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Robert and Rodney; half brother, Jim Auton and half sisters, Evelyn Sewell and Gertrude Hollingshead.

She is survived be her children, JoAnn Evans, Jim Evans and Sandy LaLoge; Brothers, Raymond Shuman (Port Alberni), Ronald Shuman (Victoria); Sisters, Myrtle Grove (Dawson Creek), Mona Feschuk (Steve) Dawson Creek and sister-in-law Mariann Shuman; Eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
